    Influence of home back ground on career choice of Undergraduate students in Islamic University in Uganda.

    Abstract
    ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of home background on career choice of undergraduate students in Islamic University in Uganda. The study was conducted under three research objectives; to find out the influence of parenting style on students’ career choice, to find out the influence of parents occupation on students career choice and to examine the influence of parent socio economic status on students’ career choice. The study employed cross sectional survey research design. Questionnaire was used as instrument of data collection. The study comprised all under graduate students of Islamic University in Uganda. Mbale main campus. This area has a total population of 4184 out of which 351 respondents were used as a sample size. The data was analyzed using Pearson Moment Correlation with the help of SPSS. The major findings of the study show that, the result from the Pearson Moment Correlation revealed that there is a very high negative correlation and therefore the results is statistically insignificant since (p- value 0.092) is greater than the significant level (sig value 0.050), on student’s career choice. However, Pearson correlation value is 0.111 for the influence parent occupation and students career choice. The finding reveal that the correlation is Very low, therefore the results is statistically significant since p- value of 0.045 is less than the significant level 0.05. Pearson correlation value is 0.377 for the influence of parents’ socio economic status and students’ career choice. The finding reveal that the correlation is moderate correlation and therefore the results is statistically significant since p- value of 0.000 is less than the significant level 0.05. The study recommended that, Parenting style should be intensified to assist students to choose their careers properly, socioeconomic status should be improved to enable students select their future careers and Students should be acquainted with their parent’s occupations to offer them clue as to choosing their own careers.
